Hurricane Isaias nears Gulf Coast: Will it affect Kentucky weather?

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX NEWS) , Hurricane Isaias strengthened into a Category 3 storm early Friday morning, and meteorologists project it will arrive at the Gulf Coast as a Category 2 system.

This storm will break a two-year streak without a hurricane directly hitting the United States.

LEX18 is actively monitoring how this storm could influence Kentucky’s weather.

Once it moves inland, Isaias will likely weaken and break apart in the atmosphere, pushing moisture straight into our area.

Showers may arrive as early as Saturday morning. While meteorologists are still pinpointing the precise arrival time, the rain will likely stick around through Saturday evening and into Sunday. Although strong thunderstorms remain unlikely, the system could bring breezy conditions to the area.

If you are traveling to Kroger Field on Saturday evening to catch Kentucky taking on No. 10 LSU, keep a poncho handy, as the forecast includes rain showers and storms.

Kentucky will likely receive 1 to 1.5 inches of precipitation overall, while areas experiencing repeated downpours could collect more than 2 inches.
