Description

TEXAS COUNTY, Mo. — A man from Licking, Missouri has been charged after demanding the return of his cat and firing several shots at his mother's residence.

Online court records show 24-year-old Halley Swade Bindl has been charged with two counts of first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.

A press release from the Texas County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) says deputies were dispatched to a house on Cameron Road at around 4:20 p.m. on Sept. 17 where the victim said Bindl was shooting at her house with her and her husband inside.

According to a probable cause statement from TCSO, the victim had contacted the Licking Police Department earlier in the day because she was worried about her son's behavior, including threats Bindl had made to take his own life. When Bindl showed up at his mother's house, he told her he was moving to Wyoming and was there to pick up his cat.

Documents say the victim told deputies she couldn't get Bindl's cat inside a crate and asked Bindl to come get the animal, but he refused. The victim's husband locked the doors, according to the probable cause statement, and Bindl attempted to force his way inside.

The victim also told TCSO that Bindl had put on a mask and was hiding behind a tree in the front yard when he fired at her home. After she called 911, the victim said Bindl kicked in the front door and threatened to shoot her husband. Documents say Bindl followed the victim's husband through the house at gunpoint before deputies arrived.

The probable cause statement says deputies found approximately 15 spent shells near the tree where Bindl was standing when he fired on the residence. They also located the gun inside his car, along with a semi-automatic nine millimeter that was on his person when he was taken into custody.

TCSO deputies attempted to interview Bindl post-Miranda but couldn't, documents say, and deputies noticed Bindl "appeared to be intoxicated and could not keep the same train of thought."

Bindl is currently being held in the Texas County Jail without bond.
