SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The trial continues for a man accused of four murders inside a Springfield hotel room.

Scott Goodwin-Bey was charged in a quadruple homicide and is on trial 10 years after the murders.

Day two of the trial saw more testimony from firearm experts and those who investigated the case back in 2014.

The jury heard from a criminalist with the Missouri State Highway Patrol today. She told the jury the firearm recovered at the crime scene was a close match when looking at the shell casings and bullets found at the scene based on class comparisons and individual comparisons they do at their lab. 

Goodwin-Bey's defense attorney said the study isn't a definite science and even if it was, it doesn't prove his client committed four murders. However, prosecutors allege Goodwin-Bey did possess the gun at one point. 

Another witness who testified was a lead detective in the case who said they recovered 13 shell cases but found multiple empty boxes of ammo in Goodwin-Bey's car. His attorney argued that having ammo in your car does not make a killer. 

Attorneys noted that the ammunition found in Goodwin-Bey's car did not match the type discovered at the scene. Additionally, three different kinds of ammunition were found at the scene, but the detective indicated that this was not unusual.

The defense's first witness was a man currently in jail named Leon Barnes. Barnes said a group of people including Goodwin-Bey and the victims would move back and forth between hotel rooms and went to another room before the shooting happened.

Barnes said Goodwin-Bey had a gun in his pocket which he held onto nervously. He said after the shots, he saw Goodwin-Bey kicking the door to the other room—which he initially told police was another man since the blood on the door was on the lower half and remembered seeing another person with blood on their shoes at a gas station later on. 

The defense then re-examined their witness trying to point out inaccuracies in his statements to the prosecution.
