Todd Chance, 38, is charged with six felonies, including first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, possession of a controlled substance, residing arrest for a felony, tampering with physical evidence in felony prosecution and delivery or possession of a controlled substance at a county jail.

According to the probable cause statement, Douglas County deputies and Ava police responded to a report of a woman appearing "disoriented and injured" in the area of Rodeo Lane in Ava, with injuries to her face and neck.

The victim told police that she had "exited" from a moving vehicle on eastbound Highway 14 driven by her boyfriend, later identified as Chance, after he allegedly assaulted her and strangled her with a seatbelt and her purse. She was later taken to Cox South Springfield for her injuries.

Officers located Chance at a family member's residence on Highway Y in Douglas County. The property owner told law enforcement that they were told by Chance that he had beaten his girlfriend and she jumped from the truck.

Chance was then transported to Douglas County Jail with a cash-only bond set at $100,000. A search of Chance's truck revealed a glass pipe that tested positive for methamphetamine and that the seatbelt Chance allegedly used to assault the victim was wiped clean by a bandana.

Online court records say Chance was previously charged with first-degree harassment, three counts of possessing a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
