Authorities have identified the 72-year-old man killed in a crash involving an alleged drunk driver in Brandywine Hundred as James Matthews.
According to Delaware State Police, the fatal collision occurred on April 18 around 2:20 p.m. at the intersection of Rocky Run Parkway and Route 202 (Concord Pike).
Investigators say Matthews was making a left turn with a green arrow when his vehicle was struck by another car driven by Michelle Palazzolo, 35. Police allege Palazzolo ran a red light and crashed into the driver’s side of Matthews’ vehicle.
Matthews was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Palazzolo sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
She has been charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, running a red light and failing to carry proper insurance. As of April 20, she remained in custody, according to records.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
