A 10-year-old boy is recovering in a hospital following an overnight drive-by shooting, according to the Dallas Police Department.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 6800 block of Cockrell Hill Road at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, first responders located a 10-year-old child suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.
Investigators believe the incident was a drive-by shooting and confirmed that gunfire struck the child while he was sleeping inside his residence. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the victim to a local hospital, where medical personnel expect him to survive his injuries.
Authorities observed multiple bullet holes and shell casings at the apartment building where the shooting occurred.
Law enforcement officials have not taken any suspects into custody at this time. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
