Los Angeles County firefighters have achieved full containment of a brush fire that scorched through the hills above the Newhall Pass in Santa Clarita.
According to LACoFD officials, the fire was initially reported at approximately 4:40 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of N. Sierra Highway and Needham Ranch Parkway.
City officials in Santa Clarita asked residents to avoid the area and seek alternate routes where possible. By 9 p.m., the blaze had charred roughly 20 acres.
Officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that a series of evacuation orders and warnings had been issued as the fire expanded. All orders and warnings have since been lifted after crews reported full containment on Sunday afternoon.
A temporary shelter was established for evacuees at the Castaic Sports Complex Community Room, situated at 31230 Castaic Road. The facility shut down at approximately 10:45 p.m. as the evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings late Saturday.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
No injuries have been reported, and it remains unclear whether any structures sustained damage from the flames.
