Southern California gets slight extreme heat relief as temperatures ease across parts of region

Very slight relief from the extreme heat settled into parts of Southern California this week, though summer temperatures remained high across the region.

An Extreme Heat Warning and a Heat Advisory remained in effect for much of the Inland Empire and desert communities through 8 p.m. Wednesday. The advisories expired for most of Los Angeles County and Orange County.

Some areas will see a more noticeable dip in temperatures heading into the weekend as slight cloud cover and monsoonal moisture move into the forecast.

Los Angeles and Orange counties on Tuesday saw sunshine with a high of 88 degrees and a low of 67. Temperatures in the upper 80s are expected all week.

In the valleys and Inland Empire, Tuesday temperatures reached a high of 98 degrees and a low of 67. Similar conditions are expected all week until light cloud cover arrives this weekend.

Beach communities can expect morning clouds followed by afternoon sunshine Tuesday, with a high of 77 degrees and a low of 69.

Mountain communities Tuesday will see a high of 88 degrees and a low of 55. A chance of thunderstorms enters the forecast Friday through the weekend as monsoonal moisture moves into the region.

Desert areas will be dangerously hot Tuesday, with a high of 106 degrees and a low of 76. Palm Springs is expected to reach 114 degrees. Triple-digit heat is in the forecast all week, including the weekend when thunderstorm chances move in.
