With kickoff just two days away, University of Kentucky students are already anticipating a spirited victory over LSU.
Over on State Street, post-game college celebrations can turn rowdy in a flash.
“We saw it two weeks ago with A&M,” one senior told LEX News. “Last week, no one was on the street, but I mean people were pretty rowdy for Carolina. We’re expecting even bigger, even better this weekend.”
Lexington police emphasize that preparing for a sold-out college football crowd takes serious time and teamwork. Lt. Jeremiah Davis explained that 100 personnel will manage traffic details alone on Saturday, ensuring both drivers and pedestrians travel safely to Kroger Field.
“It does take a large force in order to be able to successfully move everybody in and out on the arteries that flow into the stadium,” he said Thursday.
Lt. Davis encourages Wildcats fans to map out their own game plan: allow plenty of extra travel time, follow campus signs, and know how they will get home.
He also shares an essential reminder for every fan: never drink and drive.
Once the game wraps up, law enforcement expects supporters of all ages to celebrate.
Sgt. Bige Towery explained to LEX News that officers certainly do not want to spoil anyone’s fun, but they do want the post-game excitement to remain peaceful.
“We always say do not bring your indoor furniture outdoor, right?” he said. “There are some things and some behaviors that you just wanna stay away from, so you don’t want to have the memory of this night as someone being hurt, or someone even being arrested.”
That advice follows an incident in September where some students set couches ablaze on State Street to celebrate UK’s football win over Texas A&M.
