Woman gets life in prison, plus 75 years, for death of Kansas City sports reporter Adan Manzano

Danette Colbert received life plus 75 years in prison for the drugging death of Kansas City sports reporter Adan Manzano and related racketeering charges.

A judge has sentenced a woman to life in prison, plus an additional 75 years, for the death of Kansas City sports reporter Adan Manzano ahead of Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans in February 2025.

On Wednesday, a Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, judge resentenced 49-year-old Danette Colbert, classifying her as a career criminal due to her extensive record of felony convictions.

Authorities recently convicted Colbert of racketeering and negligent homicide tied to Manzano’s death.

The Jefferson Parish District Attorney noted that the racketeering charge involves Colbert’s participation in an ongoing scheme. In this operation, she and her accomplices enticed men back to hotel rooms, drugged them until they fell asleep, and then robbed them.

Manzano had been reporting on the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX for Telemundo KC when he crossed paths with Colbert in the French Quarter.

Security cameras filmed Colbert walking into Manzano’s hotel room in the early hours of February 5. Officials discovered Manzano dead inside the room later that day.

A fatal mix of alcohol and alprazolam, widely recognized as Xanax, caused Manzano’s death.
