3-year-old dead after being hit by vehicle in Manchester: police

A 3-year-old girl has died after a vehicle struck her in Manchester early Wednesday morning.

Police responded to East Center Street around 4:36 a.m. following a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers determined that a 49-year-old Manchester man was driving westbound on East Center Street when he hit the 3-year-old girl, also from Manchester.

Emergency crews reached the scene and immediately began life-saving efforts.

Responders transported the child to Connecticut Children’s, where she later died, police said. Authorities have not yet released her identity.

The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

East Center Street was temporarily closed between Goodwin Street and Parker Street before reopening.
