The Ashdown Police Department and Arkansas State Police are investigating the shooting death of a man found outside a residence Tuesday morning (June 9).
Police Chief Boyd Kennemore said officers were dispatched to the end of Brodie Street around 6:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found the man outside suffering from gunshot wounds.
The person who made the 911 call is also a person of interest in the case, Kennemore said.
“A person of interest called and said that they had fired a shot that they believe the male subject was dead,” Kennemore said.
The person of interest has been taken to the Little River County Jail, with charges pending. Multiple shots were fired during what police are describing as a domestic disagreement, according to Kennemore.
“There was a firearm recovered at the scene. We obtained a search warrant to enter the residence. I believe two firearms were recovered,” Kennemore said.
The victim’s body has been sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
Kennemore said this is the first homicide in Ashdown in six years.
“We still have interviews to do and a long way to get there, but we are working on it as we speak,” Kennemore said.
