West Hartford Couple Running Boston Marathon to Raise Funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

A couple from West Hartford is turning their passion for running into a powerful mission—raising money to support cancer research and patient care.

Kelly Horan and Tom Golembeski are set to participate once again in the prestigious Boston Marathon, an event they’ve completed together more than a dozen times. This year, their goal goes beyond crossing the finish line—they are running to support the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The pair has already raised over $35,000 for the organization in 2026 alone. Over the years, their combined fundraising efforts have surpassed $150,000, contributing to cancer research and treatment initiatives.

For Horan, the cause is deeply personal. She lost her mother, Mary Ellen Horan, to stage 4 colon cancer more than four years ago. She credits Dana-Farber for helping extend her mother’s life, giving their family valuable time together.

Motivated by that experience, Horan says running the marathon is a way to give back and support others facing similar battles.

Beyond fundraising, the couple also embraces the unique energy of the Boston Marathon. Known for its enthusiastic crowds and strong community spirit, the race provides an emotional boost that keeps runners going through the challenging course.

As they prepare for this year’s race, Horan and Golembeski are aiming to complete the marathon in under four and a half hours. But regardless of their finish time, their primary focus remains on raising awareness and funds for cancer research.

With every mile, the couple continues to honor loved ones, inspire others, and contribute to a cause that impacts countless lives.
