One person died and another was hospitalized after a crash that occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday.
Police said an officer conducting radar enforcement on Delavan Avenue spotted a Lexus traveling eastbound at an estimated 50 mph in a 25 mph zone. The officer also saw the vehicle run a red light at the intersection of Delavan Avenue and Frontage Road.
The officer followed in the same direction and later found the vehicle crashed on W. Ritch Avenue. According to police, the Lexus sustained major damage after hitting a roadside utility pole.
Officials said the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle and later died from their injuries. A front-seat passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police are withholding the driver’s identity until next of kin are notified.
