A West Hartford house fire left one person with serious burns early Wednesday.
Just before 9 a.m., crews responded to reports of a fire at a single-family, two-story home at 516 Park Road and found smoke coming from the attic, Dep. Chief Jarrad Smith of the West Hartford Fire Department said.
Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack toward the fire on the second floor and searched the home to ensure no one was trapped inside, Smith said.
One person had already gotten out of the home before crews arrived but suffered serious burns, Smith said. Crews tended to the victim at the scene before taking them to a hospital, Smith said. Their condition has not been made clear.
No other injuries were reported.
Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, knocking it down within a few minutes and declaring it under control by 9:35 a.m., Smith said. The blaze damaged the second floor and an attic space of the home, and the house also sustained smoke damage.
It was not immediately clear whether the home was still livable.
The West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office, West Hartford Police Department and the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit are investigating the cause of the fire.
“The West Hartford Fire Department would like to thank our colleagues from UCONN Health Center Fire Rescue who operated on-scene, as well as crews from the City of Hartford Fire Department and Newington Fire Department who provided town-wide coverage to the community while crews operated on the Park Road scene,” Smith said in a statement. “Additionally, multiple units from American Medical Response were on-scene assisting with patient care and standing by for firefighter safety due to the high heat index.”
