Old Thompson Center building in Columbia may be converted into veterinary hospital

Former Thompson Center building at 200 N. Keene St. in Columbia may become a veterinary hospital after Brick Box Properties filed a conditional use permit on behalf of MU.

A proposal submitted to the city of Columbia suggests that the former Thompson Center building, located in the eastern part of the city, may be repurposed as a veterinary hospital.

Brick Box Properties has filed a conditional use permit application on behalf of the University of Missouri Board of Curators, the current owner of the property.

If approved, the permit would authorize the operation of a veterinary hospital at 200 N. Keene St., situated northeast of Portland Street. The property spans approximately 1.24 acres and is currently zoned for mixed-use office development.

This proposal follows the relocation of the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment, which transferred its clinical services to MU Health Care’s South Providence Medical Park in March. The new facility officially began operations on May 8.

The Columbia Planning and Zoning Commission has scheduled a public hearing to address the permit request. Based on the most recently available online meeting records, the city has yet to publish a vote outcome or announce a date for any subsequent action.
