NEW CASTLE COUNTY, Delaware — Drivers traveling through Pike Creek and Milltown should prepare for stricter traffic enforcement as New Castle County Police Department rolls out mobile speed enforcement cameras in key areas.
Officials announced that motorists exceeding the speed limit by as little as 6 miles per hour could soon face fines once enforcement officially begins.
Where Speed Cameras Are Being Installed
The automated speed enforcement system will be active along:
- Milltown Road between McKennans Church Road and Duncan Road
- McKennans Church Road between Milltown Road and Bardell Drive
Warning signs will be posted to alert drivers that photo enforcement is in effect in these zones.
Warning Period Before Fines Begin
Authorities confirmed a 30-day warning period starting April 15, during which drivers caught speeding will receive warnings instead of tickets.
After this grace period ends, violators will face civil penalties for speeding offenses.
What Drivers Should Know
Police emphasized several important points about the program:
- Tickets issued are civil violations, not criminal offenses
- No points will be added to driving records
- Insurance rates will not be affected
- The county does not profit from the fines collected
The goal, officials say, is to improve road safety rather than generate revenue.
Focus on Safety and Community Protection
According to New Castle County Police Department, the initiative is designed to reduce speeding and protect residents, pedestrians, and other road users in high-traffic neighborhoods.
“Motorists are encouraged to follow posted speed limits and drive responsibly,” police said in a statement.
Why This Matters
The introduction of mobile speed cameras reflects a growing trend across U.S. communities to use automated traffic enforcement to:
- Reduce accidents
- Improve compliance with speed limits
- Enhance neighborhood safety
Drivers in the Pike Creek and Milltown areas are advised to stay alert and adhere to posted limits to avoid penalties once enforcement begins.
