A Mountain Home woman will spend the next three years on probation after pleading guilty in Baxter County Circuit Court.
Forty-three-year-old Betsey Coplen, who lists an address on Hallmark Circle, appeared Monday in Circuit Court/Criminal Division and entered a guilty plea to drug-related charges.
Under a negotiated plea agreement, Coplen received three years of probation for each felony count and one year of probation for each misdemeanor count. Because the sentences will run concurrently, she will serve a total of three years on probation.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred May 8 of last year when officers responded to Harps Midtown on U.S. Highway 62 East for a welfare check.
A caller reported that a woman was unconscious in the driver’s seat of a maroon Kia parked near the pharmacy area.
When officers arrived, they found Coplen inside the vehicle and managed to wake her. They then asked her to step out of the car.
As she exited, officers observed a zippered case in plain view inside the open driver’s side door. Inside the case, they found items commonly associated with drug use, including glass pipes with white residue.
Officers took Coplen into custody and conducted a search of the vehicle.
During the search, they discovered a clear container holding a white crystalline substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. The substance weighed just over three grams.
Authorities also reported finding a grinder containing what they believed to be marijuana, along with a separate container holding marijuana concentrate, commonly known as wax.
Coplen was transported to the Baxter County Detention Center and booked without incident.
She was also ordered to pay fines, fees, and court costs, and agreed to forfeit all items seized in the case.
