Missouri Man Sentenced After Sending 18,000 Texts to 13-Year-Old in Grooming Case

Federal Court Hands 14-Year Sentence in Child Exploitation Case

A 34-year-old man from Crawford County has been sentenced to more than 14 years in federal prison after admitting to serious child exploitation charges involving a minor.

The accused, Nathaniel Rod Gibson, received a 170-month sentence after pleading guilty to coercion and enticement of a minor, as well as traveling across state lines to engage in illegal sexual conduct.

Thousands of Messages Used to Groom Victim

According to prosecutors, the case dates back to 2023, when Gibson allegedly gave a 13-year-old girl a mobile phone and began communicating with her extensively.

Authorities said he sent nearly 19,000 text messages over a six-month period, many of which were described as romantic and manipulative in nature. Investigators believe the communication was part of a deliberate effort to gain the victim’s trust and influence her behavior.

Interstate Travel and Illegal Acts Reported

Officials stated that in June 2023, Gibson transported the minor across state lines to a campground in Arkansas, where illegal sexual activity occurred.

Prosecutors also reported additional incidents of unlawful contact at his residence in Crawford County.

Guilty Plea and Sentencing Details

Gibson entered a guilty plea in federal court earlier this year. The sentencing reflects the severity of the charges, which involve both exploitation and interstate criminal activity involving a minor.

Support Resources for Victims

Authorities emphasize that support services are available for individuals affected by abuse or exploitation. Several organizations in the St. Louis area provide crisis intervention, counseling, and advocacy services for victims and families.

Growing Concern Over Online Grooming Crimes

This case highlights ongoing concerns about online grooming and exploitation, particularly involving minors. Law enforcement agencies continue to warn families about the risks of digital communication platforms being used to target vulnerable individuals.
