A 23-year-old man has been charged in connection with a deadly shooting at a bus stop near the Delmar Loop MetroLink station in St. Louis, according to police.
Authorities say Dewayne Hurn is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and property damage. The charges stem from a Thursday afternoon incident that left Lamar Jackson, 24, dead.
What Happened
Police reported that the shooting occurred around 3 p.m. near a MetroLink bus stop on Des Peres Avenue. Surveillance footage allegedly shows Hurn walking past Jackson before turning around and opening fire while the victim had his back turned.
Gunfire also struck a nearby Metro bus, though officials confirmed no passengers were injured.
Arrest and Evidence
Investigators say they were able to quickly identify the suspect after finding Hurn’s cellphone at the scene. An eyewitness later confirmed his identity through a photo lineup.
Hurn was arrested within hours and is currently being held without bond at the St. Louis City Justice Center. His next court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
Ongoing Investigation
Police continue to investigate the motive behind the shooting. The incident has raised concerns about safety in the busy Delmar Loop area, a popular transit and entertainment hub in the city.
