Heat relief, though slight, reaches parts of Southern California

LOS ANGELES , Very slight relief from the extreme heat arrived in Southern California this week, though summer temperatures remain high across the region.

An Extreme Heat Warning and a Heat Advisory remain in effect for much of the Inland Empire and desert communities through 8 p.m. Wednesday. The advisories expired for most of Los Angeles County and Orange County.

Some areas will see a more noticeable drop in temperatures heading into the weekend as slight cloud cover and monsoonal moisture move into the forecast.

Los Angeles and Orange counties on Tuesday will see sunshine with a high of 88 degrees and a low of 67. Temperatures in the upper 80s are expected throughout the week.

In the valleys and Inland Empire, temperatures on Tuesday are forecast to reach a high of 98 degrees and a low of 67. Similar conditions will continue all week until light cloud cover arrives this weekend.

Beach communities can expect morning clouds followed by afternoon sunshine on Tuesday, with a high of 77 degrees and a low of 69.

Mountain communities on Tuesday will see a high of 88 degrees and a low of 55. A chance of thunderstorms enters the forecast Friday through the weekend as monsoonal moisture moves into the region.

Desert areas will be dangerously hot on Tuesday, with a high of 106 degrees and a low of 76. Palm Springs is expected to reach 114 degrees. Triple-digit heat is in the forecast all week, including over the weekend when thunderstorm chances move in.
