Academy Award-winning composer Rachel Portman’s The Little Prince, based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s Le petit Prince, is an imaginative, melodic setting of the bond of a Little Prince from a neighboring asteroid and a Pilot whose plane has crash-landed in the desert. The two fight against time to learn about beauty, friendship, loss, and healing as they travel together and meet colorful, often puzzling, characters. An opera for all ages, this sonorous score with its fun, vivid encounters lifts the Prince, the Pilot, and the audience toward discovery—toward heartfelt ways of seeing and loving.
