Jackie, the beloved Big Bear bald eagle who had been receiving intensive medical care for a prolonged illness over the past several weeks, has died.
The Ojai Raptor Center reported that Jackie passed away in the early hours of Monday, noting that her condition had continued to deteriorate over the last few days despite all the treatments she was receiving.
“She remained in critical condition, receiving oxygen therapy, supportive care and 24-hour monitoring in our intensive care unit,” the center said in an Instagram post. “Throughout her stay at the Ojai Raptor Center, every decision was guided by the available medical evidence, her well-being, and our responsibility to do what was best for her.”
Jackie’s remains were transferred to the care of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

“We know this news will be deeply felt by the thousands of people around the world who followed her journey, kept hope alongside us, prayed for her, and supported those caring for her. Our team is heartbroken. It has been an extraordinary privilege to care for her,” the center added.
After Jackie was found on the ground near Big Bear Lake and rescued three weeks ago, experts said she was suffering from anemia and inflammation affecting her kidneys. She had previously received a life-saving blood transfusion from another female eagle named Spirit, a resident of the CALM zoo in Bakersfield.
Jackie was one of two bald eagles in the well-known pair featured on the Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV) live nest cam, alongside her mate, Shadow.
