Floyd County deputies arrested 30-year-old Franklin Brooks of Lexington on Saturday following a high-speed pursuit on Route 114 near Prestonsburg. The chase unfolded after law enforcement attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop on Brooks, who was suspected of trafficking illicit narcotics, including dangerous fentanyl.
Rather than pulling over, Brooks accelerated and attempted to outrun the patrol units. Deputies reported seeing him discard several objects from his car window during the pursuit. Investigators quickly retrieved the discarded items, identifying them as illegal recreational drugs, specifically fentanyl.
The pursuit came to a halt several miles down the road when deputies strategically boxed in Brooks’ vehicle with patrol cars, forcing him to stop safely. A search of the vehicle yielded additional quantities of suspected illicit fentanyl along with drug paraphernalia.
Authorities booked Brooks into the Floyd County Jail on multiple offenses. He faces charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl), three counts of wanton endangerment, first-degree fleeing and evading police, resisting arrest, and several traffic violations.
