Multiple emergency crews across Southern California were dispatched after a vehicle carrying four people plummeted hundreds of feet off Angeles Crest Highway in La Cañada Flintridge late Wednesday night, claiming the driver’s life and leaving three passengers with serious injuries, authorities said.
The Pasadena Police Department said the crash took place at approximately 10:30 p.m.
“The vehicle was several hundred feet below the road and was difficult to access,” fire officials said.
A Pasadena Police Department spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times that the female driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Crews were still working to recover her body because of the difficult terrain.
The three passengers, identified only as Orange County residents in their 20s, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to area hospitals.
A Pasadena firefighter also sustained a leg injury during the rescue effort and was transported to a hospital, according to The Times. The firefighter’s condition was not immediately known.
The Pasadena Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is looking into the crash.
Pasadena fire officials expressed gratitude to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Glendale Fire Department and Montrose Search and Rescue for their help with the operation.
