22-year-old Worcester man charged for ‘significant role’ in East Haven street takeover

EAST HAVEN, Conn. — East Haven police have made an additional arrest connected to a street takeover that occurred in November 2025, the town’s police department announced Monday.

Investigators identified Aldo Almonte Vargas, 22, of Worcester, Mass., as playing a “significant role in organizing and coordinating participants” in the takeover.

Almonte Vargas turned himself in at East Haven Police Headquarters on Monday. He faces charges of inciting injury to persons or property, inciting to riot, and riot in the second degree.

On Nov. 30, 2025, officers responded to ShopRite Plaza on Foxon Road after reports of reckless activity in a crowded parking lot, where multiple vehicles performed burnouts and people set off fireworks.

As officers arrived, individuals surrounded a marked East Haven police cruiser and damaged it by throwing objects and spraying the engine compartment and windshield with a fire extinguisher, police said.

Over several months, investigators worked to identify Almonte Vargas and his role in the incident. Police highlighted the role social media and online communication played in organizing the event and recruiting participants.

Almonte Vargas was released on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on June 17.

In March, officers arrested Liam Walsh, 20, of Somersville, Mass., whom they identified as one of the suspects seen in multiple videos jumping on a police cruiser while filming himself.

The investigation into those involved in the takeover remains active, and police said they expect to make additional arrests.
