Severe Storms Leave 1 Dead, 3 Injured in Mississippi Amid Ongoing Weather Outbreak

MONTICELLO, Miss. — The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said Thursday that one person died and three others were injured after severe thunderstorms swept across Lawrence County on Wednesday.

According to the FOX Forecast Center, the most intense storms passed through the area around 8 p.m. local time, and rain continued into early Thursday morning.

More than 40,000 customers remained without electricity Thursday morning, while officials reported additional storm damage in Amite, Lincoln, Smith, Pike and Walthall counties.

Power outages surged across Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and Georgia early Thursday as a line of severe thunderstorms tore through the Southeast — the final wave of a multiday severe weather outbreak that produced deadly tornadoes in the Midwest earlier this week.
