16-Year-Old Accused of Brutally stabbing mother 12 times in Benton County

A 16-year-old is facing several charges after court records say he stabbed his mother around a dozen times.

Police arrested Josue Carranza-Reyes on April 9 following an investigation by the Rogers Police Department. According to court documents, he faces charges of attempted capital murder, first-degree domestic battery and tampering with physical evidence. Authorities are prosecuting him as an adult.

Carranza-Reyes entered a not guilty plea during his May 4 arraignment.

A criminal information sheet states that Carranza-Reyes acted “with the premeditated and deliberated purpose in an attempt to cause the death” of his mother by stabbing her 12 times in the chest, back and shoulders. The documents also allege that he knocked out one of her teeth.

Court records say the alleged attack happened on or around March 25.

The tampering charge alleges that Carranza-Reyes “suppressed, removed, or concealed his phone and a kitchen knife” that investigators say was used in the attack on his mother.

An RPD detective interviewed Carranza-Reyes, who admitted to stabbing his mother but reportedly refused to share additional details about the incident.

According to court documents, Carranza-Reyes also told investigators that he contacted a friend while driving and planned to flee to Mexico.

The documents state that Carranza-Reyes has been ordered to have no contact with his mother “even if [she] seems to allow or request contact.”

Carranza-Reyes remains held at the Benton County Juvenile Detention Center on a $1 million bond. His next court hearing is set for June 15.
