1 dead, 8 injured in shooting at south Denver bar on East Hampden Avenue

One man died and eight other people were injured in an overnight shooting at a bar in southeast Denver, according to police.

Denver police said the shooting happened just after midnight at the Ultra Lounge East, 9755 East Hampden Ave. Crime scene tape surrounded the building afterward.

The eight injured people were taken to hospitals with injuries described as non-life threatening. The man who died was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said at a news conference that the shooting happened in the patio area of the bar and in the parking lot. He said many or all of those involved with the shooting had gathered at the location as part of some sort of after-party. Members of the group had previously been at a location in the neighboring city of Aurora, where there was also some sort of disturbance.

Thomas said at least two weapons were fired in the shooting.

Police said they are working to develop suspect information.
