Police have arrested two suspects following an armed robbery at a Family Dollar store on Silas Deane Highway late Saturday night.
According to authorities, the incident occurred when a male suspect allegedly entered the store, displayed a handgun, and stole merchandise. Investigators said the suspect was accompanied by a female, and both fled the scene in a red Hyundai Elantra before officers arrived.
Wethersfield Police later coordinated with Hartford Police, who located the vehicle around 10:43 p.m. The two individuals inside were detained and positively identified as 57-year-old Miguel Ramirez of New Britain and 48-year-old Susette Mendes of Hartford.
During the investigation, police reported that Ramirez admitted to selling the stolen items in Hartford. Officers also found him in possession of a knife at the time of his arrest.
Ramirez now faces multiple charges, including first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, and conspiracy to commit larceny. Mendes has been charged with first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny, and possession of a controlled substance.
Both suspects were held on a $50,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Monday.
