JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — One person is dead and another is seriously injured after a crash in rural Jasper County.
According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the crash happened at around 1 p.m. on Sept. 11, on Route H nine miles west of Jasper.
MSHP says a trash truck went partially off the right side of the road and overcorrected, sending it off the left side of the road before it overturned.
Kim L. Melvin, 56, of Joplin, died at the scene of the crash. His passenger, a 65-year-old man from Webb City, was taken to a hospital in Joplin with serious injuries.
This is MSHP Troop D's 74th fatality for 2024.
