GREENE COUNTY, Mo. — A man from Mt. Vernon, Missouri is dead after being involved in a crash with a tractor-trailer.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) crash report, the crash happened around 9 p.m. on Sept. 4 on I-44 nine miles west of Springfield.
MSHP says 36-year-old Stephen Branstetter was westbound on I-44 with slow-moving traffic due to road construction. Branstetter attempted to change lanes and pass a slow-moving semi truck but hit the truck's rear, MSHP said.
Branstetter died at the scene.
This is MSHP Troop D's 71st fatality for 2024.
