I-94 closures in Wayne County Saturday morning, when to expect delays

Travelers heading to Detroit Metropolitan Airport on Saturday morning, March 21, should prepare for brief closures along Interstate 94.

From 7 to 9 a.m., traffic on westbound I-94 between Merriman Road and Vining Road, as well as eastbound I-94 from Wayne Road to Vining Road, will be halted in intermittent 15-minute intervals, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Crews plan to relocate utility lines across the freeway with assistance from Michigan State Police, according to MDOT.

Construction is currently underway along a 12.7-mile section of I-94 between Romulus and Dearborn.

Airport travelers should also prepare for possible delays due to heavy spring break travel, along with impacts from a partial government shutdown that began on Feb. 14, 2026. Transportation Security Administration workers are currently unpaid as the U.S. Congress determines the budget for the Department of Homeland Security.

Drivers can check for delays and closures on MDOT’s Mi-Drive map.
