Hot, dry conditions have led Boone County, Izard County, and the city of Salesville in Baxter County to implement burn bans.
Izard County Judge Eric Smith placed the county under a burn ban on Sunday until further notice. In a statement released by the county, the judge noted, “We do not want to have to charge anyone under this statute, so please help us keep our community safe and do not burn during this time.”
Boone County officials enacted a burn ban on Sunday, with County Judge Tyler Gentry saying the decision came after consulting with the County Fire Coordinator, the Office of Emergency Management, and the Forestry Commission, according to a county notice.
On Sunday, the Salesville Fire Department also issued a burn ban for all incorporated areas within the city due to unseasonably dry conditions.
The Arkansas Forestry Division reports that all of Northern Arkansas faces a high wildfire risk.
Mostly clear skies are expected to dominate the forecast over the next seven days, with slight chances of rain possible on Tuesday and Friday.
