Grand Central Subway Stabbing: Suspect Shot Dead by Police, Three Injured in NYC Attack

NEW YORK — A violent stabbing incident at Grand Central Terminal left three people injured Saturday morning before police fatally shot the suspect, authorities confirmed.

Suspect Identified After Erratic Behavior on Subway

The New York Police Department identified the attacker as 44-year-old Anthony Griffin.

Officials said Griffin began acting erratically shortly before 10 a.m. after arriving on a subway train from Queens. Moments later, he allegedly launched a violent attack using a machete.

Three Victims Injured, Expected to Survive

Police reported that:

  • An 84-year-old man suffered severe head and facial injuries
  • A 65-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman were also slashed

All three victims were rushed to nearby hospitals and are expected to recover.

Police Confrontation Ends in Fatal Shooting

Officers were alerted by a witness and quickly tracked the suspect to another subway platform.

Authorities said officers issued multiple commands for Griffin to drop the weapon. When he refused and moved toward them with the machete, one officer opened fire.

Griffin was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Subway Service Disrupted Across Major Lines

The incident caused significant disruption across the city’s transit system. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority temporarily rerouted subway services, with the 4, 5, and 6 lines bypassing Grand Central during the investigation.

Investigation Underway, Bodycam Footage Expected

Authorities have launched an internal review of the police response, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings. Officials say body camera footage will be released as part of the ongoing investigation.
