Good Samaritan Fatally Struck While Assisting Crash Victim on I-70 in St. Louis

A woman attempting to help a stranded driver on Interstate 70 in St. Louis was tragically killed after being struck by another vehicle early Friday morning, authorities confirmed.

Fatal Crash Occurs on Wet Highway

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the incident happened around 1:15 a.m. on eastbound I-70 near Union Boulevard. Accident Reconstruction investigators responded to reports of a pedestrian-involved crash.

Police said a Ford Explorer had crashed on the rain-slicked roadway and came to a stop in the lanes of traffic.

Woman Hit While Trying to Help

Officials reported that an unidentified woman exited her vehicle and was walking toward the disabled SUV to assist the driver. While doing so, a Chevrolet Silverado struck both the woman and the stopped Ford Explorer.

The woman sustained critical injuries and was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released her identity.

Driver Remains at Scene

Police confirmed that the driver of the Silverado remained at the scene and suffered minor injuries. No additional details about potential charges have been released.

Multiple Vehicles Involved, Lanes Closed

Several vehicles were reportedly involved or damaged in the incident. All eastbound lanes of I-70 were temporarily shut down as emergency crews responded and investigated the crash.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the roadway was fully reopened around 5:20 a.m.
