CONWAY, Ark. — Authorities in Conway have released disturbing new details surrounding a fatal stabbing at a local Walmart store, where an employee was killed during a late-night incident.
Investigators say the suspect, 37-year-old Zeddrick Ross, claimed he carried out the attack while attempting to kill what he believed was a “demon” following him.
Suspect Describes Delusional Motive to Police
According to law enforcement, Ross told investigators he had been experiencing paranoia and believed a woman he described as a supernatural entity was pursuing him.
He allegedly admitted to stealing a large knife from a nearby Walgreens prior to entering the Walmart store. Once inside, he also armed himself with a machete, claiming it was for protection.
Ross told police that while inside the store, he encountered someone he believed to be the figure he feared. He then attacked the individual, stabbing them multiple times in the neck and shoulder.
After the assault, Ross reportedly realized that the victim was not the person he believed he had seen.
Victim Identified as Beloved Store Employee
The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Jordanne Drinkwater, an employee who was working her scheduled shift at the time of the attack.
Colleagues described her death as deeply tragic, with many expressing shock and grief over the loss of a well-liked coworker.
Charges Filed and Investigation Continues
Ross has been formally charged with first-degree murder. A judge has set his bond at $1 million as the case moves forward.
