High Holidays food drive gathers over 225 bags for Jewish Family Service

A food drive held in honor of the High Holidays delivered over 2,500 pounds of food and essential supplies to the Jewish Family Service of Atlantic and Cape May Counties.

Members of Beth El Synagogue, Congregation Beth Israel, Temple Beth Shalom, Shirat Hayam Congregation, as well as local businesses and community individuals, contributed more than 225 packed bags. These bags contained many of the most sought‑after items, such as peanut butter, jelly, soups, canned tuna, cereal, oatmeal, sauce, rice, pasta, vegetables, snacks, diapers, and wipes.

Thirty volunteers unloaded, weighed, and sorted the donations, then distributed them across nearly twelve locations in Atlantic City each month.

“With the generous volume of non‑perishable food and other items donated during the High Holidays, our pantry is able to continue providing essential support to thousands of people throughout the region,” JFS CEO Andrea Steinberg said. “We are incredibly grateful to those who hosted the High Holiday food drives. Their generosity makes a meaningful difference for people in need.”

As Thanksgiving approaches, JFS continues to collect essential holiday food items and monetary contributions. A $45 donation enables the agency to purchase a turkey and side dishes for a family’s holiday dinner. Donors may also provide non‑perishable food bags containing macaroni & cheese, yams, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, string beans, and corn.

Turkey‑drive donations can be mailed to JFS, 607 North Jerome Avenue, Margate, NJ 08402, or submitted online.
