Pierce County , A Pierce County family is reeling after they say someone smashed into their home and stole more than $50,000 worth of video games.
The break-in left parts of the home’s front door damaged, but the deeper loss is rows of bare shelves that once displayed rare, collectible Nintendo games.
“It had my whole life there. That was basically a forty-year collection of Nintendo games on that shelf,” said Roger Holler.
The backstory:
Holler tells FOX 13 Seattle the theft represents decades of family history. What started as a personal interest in 1984 turned into a long-running bonding ritual with his children.
“Over 30 years of driving around on the weekends from game store to game store, collecting, to coming home, cleaning them. You’re in the car for six, eight, 10 hours building memories,” said Chris Sterling, Holler’s son.
The financial damage to the family is significant. Burglars made off with more than 850 Nintendo games, including several rare copies the family said are each individually worth small fortunes.
“That was going to be my grandkids’ inheritance or college tuition, and now I don’t have anything to give them,” said Holler.
The break-in has left the family unsettled.
“They’ve been in our home. They know our home layout. They’ve been in our master bathroom. They took my wife’s tennis bracelet,” said Holler.
The family has reported the burglary to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
