LOS ANGELES — iHeartMedia is joining forces with Disney+ and Hulu to adapt six of its hit podcasts into video series, with “Hey Jonas!” launching the lineup on Aug. 14.
Over the coming months, U.S. bundle subscribers will get weekly video episodes of the additional titles. “Pod Meets World” makes its way to Disney+ on Aug. 24, while “Desperately Devoted,” “Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach and Donald,” “StraightioLab,” and “Thanks Dad with Ego Nwodim” will be available on Hulu.
“Fans can’t get enough of the stories and talent they love, and podcasts have become one of the fastest-growing ways for audiences to connect with them,” said Lauren Tempest, Head of Content Planning & Partnerships, DTC at The Walt Disney Company. “”These new video podcasts from iHeartMedia bring fans closer to their favorite worlds and the creators behind them, and we’re thrilled to make them available on Disney+ and Hulu as part of an even richer streaming experience.”
“Podcasting continues to evolve as audiences increasingly want to engage with the shows and personalities they love in more ways and across more platforms,” said Bob Pittman, chairman and CEO of iHeartMedia. “Disney+ and Hulu have built powerful streaming destinations with incredibly passionate fan communities, making them ideal partners to expand the reach of these beloved iHeartPodcasts. From iconic rewatch series and fan-favorite conversations to original storytelling, this deal gives both existing listeners and new viewers an easy way to discover and connect with some of podcasting’s most engaging voices through video.”
“Hey Jonas!” debuts on both Disney+ and Hulu on Aug. 14, with a special “Camp Rock” episode timed to lead into the premiere of “Camp Rock 3” on Disney+. The brothers will continue the celebration that same weekend with live tapings at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.
“Pod Meets World” lands on Disney+ on Aug. 24. Co-hosts Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle, and Rider Strong bring their three-decade friendship to video, sharing ’90s throwbacks, side quests, and guest conversations.
“Desperately Devoted” arrives on Hulu in video form for the first time on Nov. 2, offering fans a deeper look at “Desperate Housewives” with hosts Teri Hatcher, her on-screen daughter Andrea Bowen, and her real-life daughter Emerson Tenney.
“Scrubs” fans can revisit every episode of the hit revival alongside co-stars and longtime friends Zach Braff and Donald Faison through “Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach and Donald,” which begins streaming on Hulu this fall.
Completing the Hulu fall slate are “StraightioLab,” where comedians George Civeris and Sam Taggart break down straight culture with the help of guests, and “Thanks Dad with Ego Nwodim,” which features candid discussions about daddy issues and the formative moments that shaped her guests’ lives.
The new additions build on an existing roster of podcasts already on Disney+ and Hulu, including licensed titles such as “Handsome” and “We’re Here to Help,” rewatch series like “The Mess Around with Hannah and Lamorne,” and companion podcasts tied to shows like “Paradise,” “American Idol,” and “Dancing with the Stars.” Viewers can browse the complete selection in the Podcasts Collection on Disney+ and the Podcasts Hub on Hulu.
