Man fatally shot in head found by dog walker in Van Nuys; shooter at large

VAN NUYS, LOS ANGELES , A man suffering from a fatal gunshot wound to the head was discovered by a passerby walking a dog overnight in Van Nuys, authorities said.

Los Angeles Police Department officers responded about 2:10 a.m. to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon near Murrieta and Hazeltine avenues, east of Van Nuys Boulevard, the department reported.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was found bleeding after being shot in the head. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. His identity had not been released.

A description of the shooter, who remained at large, was not available.
