A man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday morning after he barricaded himself inside a Dallas home and set it on fire, police said.
Dallas police said officers responded around 6 a.m. to an armed disturbance call on Delaware Avenue near South Llewellyn Avenue in Oak Cliff. Investigators determined a man with a weapon had threatened a woman and a child before locking himself inside the home and starting the fire.
The woman and child are safe, according to police.
Dallas Fire-Rescue crews arrived around 7:30 a.m. but could not enter the home for safety reasons, the department said. Firefighters worked to protect surrounding structures, including nearby homes.
Fire officials said the home sustained heavy damage from the blaze.
Dallas police said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
