A 21-year-old Massachusetts man faces arrest after accidentally firing a bullet into an occupied motel room in Stonington late Friday night.
Officers responded to America’s Best Value Inn on Stonington Road at approximately 11:45 p.m. following a report of a gunshot. A caller told police a bullet had entered an occupied neighboring room.
The man accidentally discharged a Glock 19 9mm handgun while handling it in his motel room, sending a bullet into the adjacent occupied room. No injuries were reported.
The man admitted to investigators that the gun went off while he was handling it. Authorities said he also attempted to conceal the damage after the incident.
Police seized a Glock 19 handgun, a 15-round magazine and his Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms. He now faces charges including illegal discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment, possession of a high-capacity magazine and breach of peace.
Authorities released him on a $25,000 bond, with a court date set for July 2.
