A Connecticut man in his 20s died early Saturday morning after he drove the wrong way on a Massachusetts highway and collided head-on with another vehicle.
Troopers attempted to stop a vehicle on the Massachusetts Turnpike westbound at around 12:43 a.m. The driver initially pulled over but then fled as the trooper on scene approached the vehicle, according to Massachusetts State Police.
State Police issued a BOLO alert for the suspect vehicle.
Minutes later, troopers spotted the suspect vehicle traveling the wrong way and entering Route 146, heading south in the northbound lanes in Millbury, state police said.
Despite troopers’ efforts to stop the vehicle, including the use of stop sticks, the driver crashed head-on into another passenger vehicle near the on- and off-ramps at Exit 17, state police confirmed.
Officials identified the wrong-way driver as a Connecticut man in his 20s, who died from his injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Crews reopened all lanes at approximately 4:30 a.m.
Officials released no further details.
