A Moberly woman is facing three felony charges after authorities say she stole a fully marked Randolph County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle and led law enforcement on a chase Thursday.
Alayna Mason, 20, has been charged with two Class D felonies — stealing a motor vehicle and stealing a firearm — along with one Class E felony for escaping custody while under arrest.
According to a probable cause statement, deputies first detained Mason during an investigation in Moberly. Authorities said she was handcuffed and placed in the passenger seat of the patrol vehicle before she allegedly stole the SUV and fled.
The probable cause statement also noted that several firearms were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Investigators later found Mason hiding inside a residence while still wearing damaged handcuffs, according to the statement. Authorities said she admitted to stealing the patrol vehicle after officers took her back into custody.
Mason remains held without bond at the Randolph County Jail. Court records show her arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Randolph County Courthouse.
