A man has been charged in connection with a deadly shooting outside a gas station in St. Louis, where one person was killed and two others were injured earlier this month.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Jabril Olivaria is facing charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Lamarr Box Jr., 21.
What Happened in Soulard
The shooting occurred around 6 p.m. on April 3 in the Soulard neighborhood, near South 7th Street and Russell Boulevard. Investigators say multiple individuals were involved in a gunfight inside a gas station before the violence spilled outside.
Authorities reported finding more than 50 shell casings both inside the store and in the parking lot, highlighting the intensity of the exchange.
Victim Shot While Fleeing
Police say Box attempted to escape the scene by running to his vehicle after the gunfire erupted. While he was trying to drive away, Olivaria allegedly pursued him and fired multiple shots into the car.
Box managed to drive several blocks south before crashing near South Broadway and Lami Street. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Others Injured, Suspect Identified
Two additional victims — a 26-year-old man and a 29-year-old man — were also injured in the incident. Both sought treatment at local hospitals and were reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators said multiple witnesses, including a gas station employee, identified Olivaria as the shooter. Surveillance footage from the location also played a key role in the investigation.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Olivaria has been ordered held without bond as he awaits a court appearance. The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to gather evidence.
Officials noted that the shooting was part of a violent weekend in St. Louis, during which several separate incidents left multiple people dead and injured.
