Man Charged With Murder After Deadly Gas Station Shooting in Soulard Leaves One Dead

ST. LOUIS — A man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting outside a gas station in the Soulard neighborhood that left one person dead and two others injured earlier this month, according to police.

Authorities say Jabril Olivaria is facing charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the killing of Lamarr Box Jr., 21. The shooting occurred on April 3 near South 7th Street and Russell Boulevard.

Gunfire Erupts During Evening Incident

The violence unfolded around 6 p.m., when multiple shots were fired in the busy area. Investigators say more than 50 shell casings were later recovered from both the gas station and the surrounding parking lot, indicating a chaotic and intense scene.

Police say a gunfight initially broke out inside the gas station, with several individuals involved.

Victim Shot While Attempting to Flee

According to investigators, Box was seen running out of the gas station and heading toward his vehicle as the gunfire escalated.

Authorities allege that Olivaria, who was not inside during the initial shootout, spotted Box attempting to escape and began chasing him. Police say Olivaria then opened fire on Box while he was inside his car.

Despite being shot, Box managed to drive away from the scene. However, he crashed his vehicle a few blocks away near South Broadway and Lami Street.

Officers found him with gunshot wounds and rushed him to a hospital, where he later died.

Two Others Injured, Expected to Survive

In addition to the fatal shooting, two other victims — a 26-year-old man and a 29-year-old man — were taken to local hospitals with gunshot injuries. Both were reported to be in stable condition.

Suspect Identified Through Witnesses and Surveillance

Police say surveillance footage captured parts of the incident, including multiple individuals exchanging gunfire inside the gas station.

Several witnesses, including a store employee, identified Olivaria as the shooter, leading to his arrest and formal charges.

He is currently being held without bond ahead of a scheduled court hearing.

Part of a Violent Holiday Weekend

The deadly shooting was one of several violent incidents reported over Easter weekend in St. Louis. Authorities say the series of shootings left at least three people dead and six others injured across the city.

Investigation Ongoing

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the events leading up to the initial gunfight and whether additional suspects may be involved.
