Woman killed in Interstate 55 crash identified by Will County Coroner

The Will County Coroner’s Office on Sunday identified a woman who died in a crash on Interstate 55.

In a Facebook post, the coroner’s office said 26-year-old Melissa Prosser died after a collision that occurred around 4:14 a.m. in the southbound lanes near mile marker 246. As of Sunday evening, Illinois State Police continued to investigate the incident.

State police reported that troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash and transported both drivers to nearby hospitals. Authorities later pronounced one of the drivers, identified as Prosser, dead.

The coroner’s office said an autopsy was conducted on Sunday, adding that officials will determine the final cause and manner of death after reviewing autopsy findings, police reports, and toxicology results.
