A tense overnight standoff in Shrewsbury ended Sunday morning when police shot and injured an armed suspect who was holding a man at gunpoint inside a home.
Hostage Situation Sparks Major Police Response
According to the St. Louis County Police Department, officers were called shortly after 2 a.m. to a residence on Murdoch Avenue after reports that a suspect had forced entry and taken a victim hostage.
Specialized units, including the Tactical Operations Unit and Crisis Negotiations Team, responded and spent more than an hour attempting to peacefully resolve the situation.
Suspect Shot After Escalation
Authorities said the suspect became increasingly agitated during negotiations. Around 5:30 a.m., the situation escalated when the man allegedly pointed a firearm at the victim.
At that point, a tactical officer discharged his weapon, striking the suspect at least once.
Injuries and Investigation
The suspect, identified only as a 30-year-old man, was transported to a hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed that the hostage and all responding officers were unharmed.
Police noted that the officer who fired the shot has 18 years of law enforcement experience.
Scene Secured
The area remained closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene. Authorities are continuing to review the incident and are asking anyone with additional information to come forward.
