A man from Kansas City now faces a murder charge just days after a woman died following a weekend shooting.
Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced Thursday that 21-year-old Dante Williams has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Investigators say Williams shot the woman early Sunday morning, March 15. Officers with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department responded to the area near 26th and Prospect, where they found her with gunshot wounds to the head.
The victim, 27-year-old Kyrstin Lickhart, died Tuesday from her injuries.
Detectives with KCPD reviewed surveillance footage that showed Lickhart interacting with Williams before the shooting.
Cameras also captured Williams walking back to a gas station from the crime scene, where he appeared to discard gloves and wipe something off his hands.
Johnson said Williams wore the same cowboy hat, sweatshirt, and boots at the time of his arrest as he did on the day of the shooting. During the arrest, detectives recovered a gun from him that matched the weapon used to shoot Lickhart.
Williams remains in custody at the Jackson County Detention Center and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
